OUR PROGRAMS

Studio Justice

Studio Justice is ELSO’s design program made up of paid after school programs and community outreach events for Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian youth to learn about design as a tool for racial and social justice.

Our Design Cohorts engages young adults in the impact of climate change on the Black and Brown community and how they can design justice through a socially conscious lens.

Participate in our Annual Design Forum as we continue to develop ideas and designs to restore Portland’s Historic Albina District.

Join us for an evening of exploring the engineering world! Be a part of hands-on design challenges, interact with diverse engineers, and become a community of future women engineers.

Tappin Roots

Tappin Roots (TR) is an environmental internship program for Black-identified high school students in the Greater Portland area.

TR seeks to train and empower the next generation of environmental and community leaders using storytelling, mentorship, career exploration, place-based learning, and healing practices.

"My daughter gets to learn from adults that look like her. I also like the things she's learning and the exposure to all of the different outdoor field trips."

Parent of Returning Participant

From Parents of Wayfinders

My child raved about all of the new knowledge and activities he experienced, like learning to kayak. Most of all, he was influenced by his peers and staff members, who were all people of color. For the first time, he did not feel different from his peers."

ELSO Parent [Wayfinders]

"We want our children to participate because we want to support their exploration of the world and their identities. ELSO provides an opportunity to do both at once!"
